Caterpillar infestation in parts of Croatia: SeaHelp warns of gypsy moth

“At night, in the moonlight, on a leaf…” – this is how the story of the little caterpillar Nimmersatt by the author Eric Karle begins and it will probably have started similarly in Croatia, where in the region around Cres the gypsy moth is currently (end of May 2018) transforming from caterpillar to butterfly. But as harmless as the story of the insatiable caterpillar may sound, the rather cute little animals get on your nerves when they try to crawl on board by the thousands over the land line. In their search for moisture they get into the sea and swim around in real “caterpillar carpets”. They often see leashes as a good way of escaping the wet again.
