The smallest new Tiwal sailing boat to be presented at the upcoming boot in D\u00fcsseldorf measures just 3.80 meters. What makes it special is that the boat is inflatable and can easily be stowed in two bags. Of course, “real” sailors will smile at the new inflatable sailing boat from France. A dinghy, 3.80 m long and weighing only 52 kg, that can seat two adults and two children, fits into two bags and can be assembled in just 25 minutes?<\/p>\n

At least, that’s what the shipyard \u2013 or should we say the manufacturer? \u2013 Tiwal, based at 1 rue des Fr\u00e8res Lumi\u00e8re in Plescop, France, promises. The Tiwal 2XL<\/strong><\/a> is “designed for families who want to have fun sailing together”.<\/p>\n

Sailing should be child’s play for everyone, promises the manufacturer<\/h2>\n

The sailing dinghy is equipped with an 8.2m\u00b2 mainsail and a 1.8m\u00b2 jib (from North Sails) and should enable each crew member to “actively participate in sailing”. This should make sailing “child’s play for everyone”.<\/p>\n

With its inflatable wings and wide deck, the dinghy is designed to offer plenty of space and high stability. Other features: easy handling, (allegedly) “very good” sailing performance, the boat is light and portable.<\/p>\n

“This model is the answer to a recurring demand from customers who are looking for a boat for the whole family that remains compact and can be easily taken anywhere,”<\/em> explains Emmanuel Bertrand, CEO and co-founder of Tiwal. “Both children and adults can take part in the maneuvers and have fun sailing together.”<\/em><\/p>\n

An unstayed carbon mast carries 10 square meters of sail area, divided between the jib and main.<\/h2>\n

The boat has an inflatable, V-shaped hull made of double-walled high-pressure textile and an aluminum structure that supports an unstayed carbon mast, an insertable centerboard like in an Optimist dinghy, and a rudder with a tiller. The jib and mainsail are attached to the mast, and the mainsail can be easily reefed in strong winds.<\/p>\n

The pocket-sized boat was developed in collaboration with North Sails, with a focus on “easy maneuverability,” according to Tiwal. You might not win any regattas with this boat, but if you are looking for a toy for your motor yacht that you can use to swap the wheel of the motor yacht for the tiller of a zero-emission sailing boat in a quiet anchorage, this small, innovative, inflatable sailing boat could be a good choice for you, true to the motto: Sailing should be fun \u2013 and doesn’t always have to be expensive.<\/p>\n
