As in previous years, on Tuesday, 16 July 2024, the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure will carry out a coordinated action to strengthen the monitoring of maritime safety called “Safe Navigation”.
Attention sports skippers! Next Tuesday, 16 July, a Coast Guard boat could come alongside and ask them to stop their boat, show their papers and let officers on board to check the number and condition of the prescribed items of equipment.
The reason for this possible scenario is a “coordinated action to strengthen the monitoring of safety at sea called “Safe Shipping”, which the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure is organising, as in previous years.
The campaign will run from 9 am to 6 pm and “all harbour master’s offices from Pula to Dubrovnik” will be involved, reports the Adriatic web portal morski.hr.
The aim of the “Safe Navigation” campaign is to warn and inform all participants in maritime transport and to protect them from maritime accidents
The aim of the “Safe Navigation” campaign is to “warn and inform all maritime traffic participants and protect them from maritime accidents during the period of increased traffic during the tourist season”, when the presence of domestic and foreign boats and yachts in the Adriatic increases significantly.
The planned activities of this year’s action are to focus primarily on “controlling navigation speed in unauthorised sea areas, monitoring the business of boat rental, monitoring negligent swimmers and divers as well as other participants in maritime traffic”, the article continues.
Special attention will be paid on Tuesday to checking the validity of ship certificates and documents
Particular attention will be paid to checking the validity of ship certificates and documents, but the number of crew members and their certificates of competency will also be checked; in addition, passenger ships will be increasingly inspected.
The action will be supervised by State Secretary Josip Bilaver on behalf of the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure from Zadar and from Rijeka by the Director of the Maritime Safety Directorate, Captain Siniša Orlić.
