Military exercise “Shield 2025”: Boating around Kamenjak prohibited until April 11, 2025

Attention boaters: since yesterday and until Saturday, April 11, 2025, the military exercises “Shield 2025” are taking place on Kamenjak, south of Premantura. The international military exercise “Shield” is a long-standing military exercise organized by the Croatian Air Defense Regiment. During this time, boat and civilian shipping traffic is strictly prohibited around the cape.

Military exercise “Shield 2025”

Due to the military exercise “Shield 2025”, “all movement on land and water is prohibited” at Kamenjak, istra24.hr reports on its website. The ban is in effect from yesterday, April 9 through Saturday, April 11, 2025.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the command and units of the Croatian Land Forces, as well as representatives of other units of the Croatian armed forces, including other military partners, including representatives of the US armed forces, representatives of the Slovenian armed forces and a military observer from the Republic of France, as reported by istra24.hr.

Cape Kamenjak (also Rt Kamenjak or Donji Kamenjak) is the southernmost tip of the Istrian peninsula. It is a protected natural landscape under legal protection and is classified as a Javna ustanova (public institution). The cape, which is not far from Pula and Medulin, is very popular with sports skippers because of its unspoilt nature, especially for day-trippers.

However, this is not recommended, at least not until Sunday, because shooting exercises, among other things, would be carried out around Cape Kamenjak during this time; for this reason, “during the exercises, sailing, fishing and staying in the lake and land area are prohibited”.
