Anyone planning to take a boat out on the central Adriatic today or tomorrow should check the weather forecast carefully and postpone their trip by a few days if necessary.
As Split Radio reported today on 518 kHz (NAVTEX messages), the weather on the water could become uncomfortable in the next few hours and days. A weather warning has been issued in a bulletin for the Adriatic Sea by the Marine Meteorological Center in Split.
According to the warning, there may be NW gusts in the central Adriatic this afternoon, followed by “occasional north winds of 35-40 kn wind speed” overnight. There may be “sudden storms”. A frontal system is moving northeast.
Forecast for the next few hours, valid until 11.4: Northern Adriatic – wind 4-12 kts, NW in the afternoon, increasing to NE 8-18 kts overnight in Velebit. Wave height 1-2 meters, 2-3 meters in the afternoon, visibility 20 km. Cloudy, possibly showers.
Central Adriatic: Wind 4-12 kt, offshore NW up to 16 kt. In the afternoon NW, during the night along the coast NE wind 10-20 kt, locally gusting up to 24 kt. Wave height 1-2 meters, in the afternoon 2-3 meters, visibility 20 km. Cloudy, possibly rain in the evening.
Southern Adriatic: Wind 4-12 kt, at sea NW to 16 kt. In the afternoon NW, during the night along the coast also NE wind 10-20 kt. Waves 1–2 meters, in the afternoon wave height will increase to 3-4 meters. Visibility 20 km, cloudy, local rain, possibly showers, mostly along the coast.
