Sports skippers travelling by boat from the north of the Istrian peninsula, for example from Rovinj or from Medulin to the south, now have a new port of call with the new Marina Polesana. SeaHelp has a robust and fast eight-metre-long rescue boat in the nearby Marina Veruda for the sea area including the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula, the Brijuni National Park to the west of Pula and Kvarner.
Pula, the largest city in the Croatian county of Istria near the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula, is a popular cruising destination for sports skippers. The main reason for this is probably the amphitheatre, the city’s landmark, which was built under Emperor Augustus and extended under Emperor Vespasian.
Other sights such as the Arch of Sergi, the Roman theatre, the Porta Gemina and the Temple of Augustus attract thousands of tourists every year.
With the new Marina Polesana, sports skippers now have another convenient option for mooring their boat in Pula for days or weeks, or even for several months or a whole year.
The marina, which officially opened in 2022 but was only recently completed, is part of the Sv. Katarina Nautical Tourism Complex and is designed to offer sports skippers the “ultimate yachting experience”.
The marina is located on the north side of the Bay of Pula near the Brijuni Islands and offers 400 water berths
The marina is located on the north side of the Bay of Pula near the Brijuni Islands and offers 400 water and 42 dry berths, modern facilities and a professional yacht service.
In addition to a self-service laundry, a nautical shop and a small supermarket, there is also Café-Bar 21 and the Katarina restaurant. Since the summer of last year, there has also been a new, modern 200-tonne mobile crane in the Marina Polesana.
Several charter companies operate their bases in the new Marina Polesana
Those who do not want to call at Pula on their own keel will find a good selection of charter agencies in Marina Polesana. In addition to Pitter Yachtcharter, which claims to be one of the largest charter fleet operators in the world, the Croatia Sailing Academy, a group of young professionals in the maritime industry and experts in skipper courses and sailing lessons, also offers its services.
Undina Adriatica, a family boat hire company, More Yacht Club, Sea Dream Charter, Sea Travel and Bellen Charter also have bases in Marina Polesana.
