The smallest new Tiwal sailing boat to be presented at the upcoming boot in Düsseldorf measures just 3.80 meters. What makes it special is that the boat is inflatable and can easily be stowed in two bags. SeaHelp members receive free accessories such as boat tarpaulin, touring luggage rack pads or a high-pressure pump when they buy the clever French leisure dinghy.
Of course, “real” sailors will smile at the new inflatable sailing boat from France. A dinghy, 3.80 m long and weighing only 52 kg, that can seat two adults and two children, fits into two bags and can be assembled in just 25 minutes?
At least, that’s what the shipyard – or should we say the manufacturer? – Tiwal, based at 1 rue des Frères Lumière in Plescop, France, promises. The Tiwal 2XL is “designed for families who want to have fun sailing together”.
Sailing should be child’s play for everyone, promises the manufacturer
The sailing dinghy is equipped with an 8.2m² mainsail and a 1.8m² jib (from North Sails) and should enable each crew member to “actively participate in sailing”. This should make sailing “child’s play for everyone”.
With its inflatable wings and wide deck, the dinghy is designed to offer plenty of space and high stability. Other features: easy handling, (allegedly) “very good” sailing performance, the boat is light and portable.
“This model is the answer to a recurring demand from customers who are looking for a boat for the whole family that remains compact and can be easily taken anywhere,” explains Emmanuel Bertrand, CEO and co-founder of Tiwal. “Both children and adults can take part in the maneuvers and have fun sailing together.”
An unstayed carbon mast carries 10 square meters of sail area, divided between the jib and main.
The boat has an inflatable, V-shaped hull made of double-walled high-pressure textile and an aluminum structure that supports an unstayed carbon mast, an insertable centerboard like in an Optimist dinghy, and a rudder with a tiller. The jib and mainsail are attached to the mast, and the mainsail can be easily reefed in strong winds.
The pocket-sized boat was developed in collaboration with North Sails, with a focus on “easy maneuverability,” according to Tiwal. You might not win any regattas with this boat, but if you are looking for a toy for your motor yacht that you can use to swap the wheel of the motor yacht for the tiller of a zero-emission sailing boat in a quiet anchorage, this small, innovative, inflatable sailing boat could be a good choice for you, true to the motto: Sailing should be fun – and doesn’t always have to be expensive.
The scene of small and micro boats that are easy to transport in a car is growing, here are three more examples in the area of inflatable, folding and canoe sailing boats.
DinghyGo
The scene of fans of inflatable sailing dinghies is growing visibly: DinghyGo is designed to offer fun on the water for up to six people. According to the manufacturer, the boat, which is somewhat reminiscent of a motorized inflatable boat (without a motor), can be sailed close to the wind using a centerboard and folding rudder, but it can also be rowed or simply used with an outboard motor. The divisible Orca rig is supported by a forestay, and the 4.8-square-meter sail can be easily reefed by adjusting the boom height. Info: dinghygo.de.

paper8
Not inflatable, but foldable, is paper8 from PaperOtto in Italy. It is a foldable wooden sailing boat with (according to the manufacturer) “excellent sailing performance”. A simple folding mechanism is designed to make it easy for sailors to transport and store, and it should only take about 15 minutes to set up. The boat, which is shaped a bit like a large Optimist dinghy and weighs no more than 50 kg, can be sailed by up to four people. When folded, it is no larger than a surfboard. Info: paper8.de.

aqu@muse
The aquamuse, a sailing canoe from Japan that weighs only 25 kg, is even lighter. It won’t fit in a car, but it will fit on any car roof. It is only 4.27 meters long (LWL 4.03 meters), 1.05 meters wide – and still a lot of fun. The reason for this is the 3.52-square-meter triangular sail, which hangs on an unstayed carbon mast. This makes the fun canoe (equipped with a centerboard and folding rudder) easy to sail close to the wind.
This fun boat, which can also be paddled kneeling without a rig, was designed by none other than Ichiro Yokoyama, the former chief designer of the Nippon Challenge in the America’s Cup. The small canoes are currently being produced by the Japanese company Rivré on Lake Biwa. Contact: ocdr.de | Info: rivre.co.jp
