Tips for crew and boat equipment
The crew
When choosing a boat or yacht, the crew and their preferences and abilities should definitely be taken into account. If the skipper takes into account the strengths and weaknesses – and ideally also the individual wishes – of his family or male crew, he can avoid misunderstandings or problems that may arise later on and spoil a relaxing boat holiday or a long-booked yacht cruise.
What you should pay attention to:
- What experience does the crew have?
- How seaworthy is the crew?
- Are there sunbathers or potential troublemakers on board?
- Do they prefer to eat in the galley or in a restaurant?
- Evening entertainment on board or nightlife on shore leave?
- Are maneuvers fun or is even casting off in the harbor annoying?
- How much space do we have on board (is there enough privacy)?
- If you are traveling with children or “landlubbers”, you should plan for fewer nautical miles and more time for swimming and relaxing.
- Always adjust ambitious trip plans or daily mileages to the weakest link.
Equipment
Before setting off, every skipper and crew should think about their preferences and abilities, and consider what boat/yacht is available for the trip. What equipment should the boat have to meet as many of these needs as possible? In addition to a reasonable technical equipment and the mandatory safety and emergency equipment, individual “leisure aids” should also be on board – not only for bad weather. For some, it is snorkeling equipment and beloved playing cards, for others, summer vacation reading material, or, for the junior crew, the indispensable tablet with the latest online browser game (WiFi!).

The crew and their territory
The crew and equipment should also match the area, so here are some tips on Croatian areas and their suitability for boaters, skippers and crews:
Pleasure boaters will find good conditions for their hobby in the areas around the islands of Murter and Rab.

Yachties are in good hands in the Zadar region, with numerous marinas and city harbors, as well as mostly stable weather conditions. On the one hand, safe nights on the mooring line and, on the other hand, many anchorages and bathing bays to explore.
Experienced boaters can easily navigate in the regions of Istria, Kvarner South, Zadar and Sibenik with yachts up to 14 meters in length. Southern regions such as Split and Dubrovnik are more suitable for yachts over 14 meters.

Typical inflatable boat drivers vacation in the vacation home or on the camping site and explore from there your environment, where these then also the dinghies of the Yachties meet, to whom sunbathing at anchor is not enough action. The regions Kvarner, Kvarner south, Zadar and Sibenik are ideal for it.
Many skippers have become convinced buoy dwellers. They want to escape the hustle and bustle of marinas and city ports, but are not typical self-caterers and like to visit buoy fields with konobas. This already has a certain adventurous feeling and you are not alone. The regions of Kvarner South, Zadar and Sibenik are well suited for this.
Experienced and weather-savvy island hoppers often steer boats of five meters in length. They can cover distances of up to five nautical miles even in bad weather. The regions of Kvarner, Zadar, Sibenik and Split in the north offer good conditions for this.

The “campers” among us love the seclusion of their own anchor gear and are mostly self-sufficient. They are self-sufficient for a few days and have good knowledge of the weather. The regions of Kvarner South, Zadar, Sibenik and Split for yachts up to 14 meters are perfect for these crews.
The Adriatic professional has extensive knowledge of the area and weather. He knows places of refuge in every region, has a reliable anchor and mooring gear and is self-sufficient for up to five days. He prefers to drop anchor at a buoy and only heads for the marina when the end of the world is nigh. His favorite regions are Kvarner, Kvarner South, Zadar, Sibenik, Split and Dubrovnik.
And last but not least, long-term boaters who have been loyal to the Adriatic for decades are also typical representatives in Croatian waters. They have found “their” bay, where they live for weeks on end on their floating holiday home, armed with anchors and appropriate shore lines. They are often found in the regions of Kvarner, Kvarner South, Zadar and Sibenik.
